"We wish to notify our commuters that the Nairobi Commuter Rail service to Ruiru, Embakasi Village, Limuru, Syokimau and Lukenya in Kitengela are halted from December 28, 2021, to January 2, 2022.

"Normal commuter operations will resume on January 3, 2022," the statement read in part.

The Corporation indicated that all long-distance train services would remain operational alongside the connecting service between Nairobi Central Station and Nairobi Terminus.

The functional routes are the Madaraka Express Service to and from Mombasa as well the Madaraka Express service to and from Suswa in Narok.

The other services are the Safari train to and from Nanyuki on Fridays and Sundays as well as that plying between Nairobi and Kisumu.

This comes two days after the Corporation turned to buses to ferry passengers from Nairobi to Nanyuki on Christmas Day eve.

In a statement issued by the corporation on December 25, Kenya Railways stated that it opted to use buses to transport many passengers who were left stranded after arriving at the station.

It added that the tickets on the route had been totally sold out even as Kenyans travelled to various destinations for the festivities.

The travellers were charged the same price as that of the train. According to the train price schedule, Kenya Railways charges Ksh200 for economy class from Nairobi to Nanyuki.
