Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici has made one promise to her constituents once she clinches the gubernatorial seat.
Ngirici who recently ditched Deputy President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) made a pledge to over 300 health workers who were rendered jobless by Governor Anne Waiguru's administration.
Speaking at a church service that was attended by representatives of the affected health workers, the vocal lawmaker vowed to reinstate all of them immediately she ascends to power unseating Waiguru in August.Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici (left) with Deputy President William Ruto (right) at a past eventFile
Ngirici made the promise after being moved by the plight of the medics where it emerged that others had passed on while some were left battling different mental illnesses.
"When I become the governor of Kirinyaga county, you don't have to write application letters, you will all be reinstated," Ngirici noted during a Church service on Saturday, January 1.
Waiguru had refused to recall the medics despite intervention by the local branch of Kenya Civil Servants Union. She dismissed their call instead requesting the national government to recruit new medics and post them to the County since the County has no County Service Board.
“Without a Public Service Board to recruit the required medics, then my government is left with no option other than to seek for the intervention of the national government so that our people would not continue suffering more so at this point and time when we have to fight against the coronavirus,” she explained.
Waiguru expressed optimism that the national government will recruit other medics who will render service to the public.
The county justifying their decision, noted that the medics refused to comply by returning to work. Out of the 549 health workers who had gone on strike, only 190 resumed their duties while 359 refused.
Ngirici has now promised to end the stalemate by reinstating them within her first days in office.
The outspoken lawmaker dumped Ruto stating that she was under pressure to drop her bid and support Waiguru. She also decried being summoned by UDA top officials offering her another position.
"When I appeared at the headquarters, the officials tried to convince me to give up my gubernatorial ambitions and vie for the Mwea parliamentary seat on a UDA ticket. I refused, as they were determined to kill my dream," she charged.
She added, "If UDA officials are telling me to vie for a junior seat, do you expect nominations to be free and fair?" she posed.
However, UDA denied nudging her to step aside for Waiguru for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat.
“We have not summoned any aspirant to the headquarters. Our party does not believe in undemocratic summoning processes,” UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina maintained.
The gubernatorial seat is expected to be a highly competitive race pitting the three queens of Kirinyaga. NARC Kenya leader Martha karua has also declared her bid, after she was floored in 2017 by the incumbent, Waiguru.Deputy President William Ruto and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru at his Karen residence, on October 26, 2021Wlliam Ruto Twitterfight
