A video showing a motorbike rider pulling dangerous stunts along the Thika Superhighway and nearly getting into an accident has sparked a debate on social media.

In the video, the rider who has not been identified yet, is seen raising the front tyre of his motorbike and wading through traffic as passersby cheer him on.

He was also seen swinging from side to side on the bike, putting at risk the lives of other motorists and disregarding the existing traffic laws.

However, it was not immediately clear when the video was recorded or whether the relevant authorities had taken action.

Social media users, who commented on the video, wondered why someone would dare such stunts on such a busy public road.

Others opined that he had a death wish and urged the relevant authorities to arrest him before he causes an accident due to his reckless riding.

"A tad bit reckless to be honest," Yunise Murray wrote.

"This is reckless on a public road, get some brain young man," Johnny Gachanja opined.

"It’s all fun and games until one of you all causes a bad accident with those stunts," Chantelle Petite posted.

A report released by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in December 2021 showed that road accidents in Kenya went up by 17.3 per cent.

Government Spokesman, Col (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna, who issued the report on December 22, 2021, revealed that motorcyclists accounted for the highest number of those killed, with 1,634 deaths, followed by pedestrians at 1,477 while passengers were third at 727, with drivers coming fourth at 426.

Further, Oguna faulted boda boda riders for causing crashes by ignoring traffic rules, including failure to wear reflective jackets to boost visibility and speeding.
