A video of a vehicle being recklessly driven along the Thika Superhighway has gone viral on social media, raising questions on the state of road safety in the country.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the white personal vehicle identified as a Nissan Tiida was spotted driving on the on-coming lane at night.

The motorists was driving on the inner-most lane, the fast lane as per Kenyan road regulations.

Having its headlights set on full light, the vehicle forced other vehicles off the lane, and only slowed down in face of a looming head-on collision.

The road user who captured the vehicle, attempted to warn the wayward driver, telling him who was not only putting his life but also that of others at risk.

"Hey, are you trying to kill yourself? You are driving on the wrong side of the road.

"You will collide with another vehicle. Don't you fear for your life?," the concerned driver asked.

With the warning from the concerned driver serving as a wake up call, the occupant of the white station wagon slowed down.

When traffic had cleared, the motorist made a u-turn at the next exit point to join the service lane, where a police vehicle had been spotted.

The video elicited debate on social media. A number of Kenyans expressed how the driver of the vehicle captured in the video was lucky to be alive.

"The way I drive on the inner lane at unimaginable speeds, had I met him, both of us would have probably met in heaven," one motorist wrote.

On the other hand, others faulted the police officers on the service lane for turning a blind eye at the imminent threat to the lives of other road users.

"They just looked away," a Kenyan posed. "They had probably seen someone without a mask, that is a serious offence," Kamau Fredy teased.

Cases of reckless driving along Thika Road have been on the rise. In the latest incident, motorbike riders were caught on camera performing stunts on the busy road.

In the video, the rider who has not been identified yet, is seen raising the front tyre of his motorbike and wading through traffic as passersby cheer him on.

He was also seen swinging from side to side on the bike, putting at risk the lives of other motorists and disregarding the existing traffic laws.
