Starehe Member of Parliament, Charles Njagua Kanyi, popularly known as Jaguar, has joined Deputy President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
The first-time legislator was unveiled by Ruto on Monday, January 24 in a meeting attended by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and his Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi.
A statement posted on the party's Twitter page welcomed the singer-turned-politician to UDA.
"Welcome to the hustler nation Hon. Charles Njagua a.k.a Jaguar, MP Starehe Constituency," it read.
UDA Chairman Jonhson Muthama also received Jaguar and noted that the party was growing.
"The party is steadily growing in leaps and bounds as more and more leaders opt to join the winning team," he wrote.
Jaguar, who is a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, is the latest to join Ruto's party after media personality Njogu Wa Njoroge who was unveiled on Friday, January 21.
In 2017, Jaguar contested for the Starehe parliamentary seat on a Jubilee ticket and won.
He garnered 52,132 votes followed by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)'s Steve Mbogo who got 32,357 votes with prominent activist Boniface Mwangi coming third after garnering 13,413 votes.
He is expected to seek re-election in the forthcoming elections. Other people who have declared interest in the Starehe MP seat are; Simon Mbugua and Steve Mbogo.
Jaguar previously traversed the country with Ruto, who is seeking to be the fifth President of Kenya. However, has not been seen with the DP in recent months or attended his rallies and was believed to be pondering on his next move.
Other political figures who have defected from Jubilee to UDA are; Kirinyanga Governor Ann Waiguru, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura and Subukia MP Kinuthia Gachobe.
