Industrialization Chief Administrative Secretary, David Osiany, on Tuesday, February 1, announced that he had opted to shelve his political ambitions in the upcoming August polls.
In a statement released on his official social media pages, Osiany stated that he had initially intended to contest for the Rongo parliamentary seat. He stated that many of his constituents had asked him to vie for the position.
The CAS expressed that it was a tough decision to make, adding that he was looking forward to offer his services to his constituents who he praised for naturing his leadership skills.
The former sports presenter at Hot 96 FM stated that his interest in politics started way back while he served as a student leader at the University of Nairobi (UoN).
“In August 2022, another election is here. My heart is automatically tuned to Rongo Constituency in Migori County. I owe my foundational strengths and growth to them.
“Yet, this morning, I have the heaviest responsibility of disappointing the hopes of my great people, but for the better. I have weighed and deeply considered the thought of pursuing electoral office in the 2022 election,” read the statement.
Osiany explained that he made the decision after holding consultations with his family and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
“I have consulted my immediate and extended family. I have objectively ruminated and mulled over it with very close friends. I have also extensively consulted and deliberated on this with my party leader Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga,” read the statement in part.
The CAS also revealed that he would continue serving at the Ministry even as the regime of the Jubilee administration comes to an end in less than seven months.
“This desire to serve my nation was rewarded last year when H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta considered me worthy of a deputy ministerial role as a platform for adding my voice and value to the nation-building process.
“There is a convergence of opinion to stay out of the Rongo 2022 election and instead continue performing critical government assignments, especially during this crucial transition period. As such, I shall not offer my candidacy this year,” he added.
The Rongo parliamentary seat is currently held by Paul Abuor who was elected in 2017 on an ODM party ticket
