One of the appointees President Uhuru Kenyatta named in a reshuffle on Wednesday 17, is David Osiany, an accomplished communication expert and former news presenter.

Osiany, who was appointed as a Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development, was a former news anchor at Royal Media Services-owned Hot 96 where he presented the sports bulletin.

While at the station he initiated and hosted a political show, The Hot Seat, which was an accountability platform dissecting national issues with Kenya’s political leaders.

It was at Royal Media Services where the former SONU president met and proposed to his wife on-air working with her bosses to pull it off.

He then moved to Oxfam and worked as a Governance Associate. His work involved extensive research on democratic governance and social justice advocacy in Africa.

Osiany helped the Oxfam Pan Africa Director maintain and build strategic relationships with state agencies, NGOs, think-tanks, universities, diplomatic missions and development agencies in Africa.

In 2012, he joined the defunct office of the Prime Minister as a Youth Affairs advisor which involved mainstreaming of the youth agenda into the government's economic and political programs.

Until recently, he was the Chief Communications Advisor to acting Ministry of Health Director-General Health Patrick Amoth and helped the ministry in strategic communications during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Osiany holds a communication degree from The University of Nairobi and a Masters degree in public policy from the University of Bristol, England courtesy of the prestigious Chevening Scholarship program.

He is also a UNEP-Bayer Young Environmental Envoy awardee (2009). Osiany, clinched the nomination in a tightly competitive race involving students from various universities in the East Africa region

At the University of Nairobi, Osiany had a defining moment for his leadership, becoming the Faculty of Arts Representative as a freshman, and later being elected as the youngest President of Nairobi university students’ organization SONU in his second year.
