The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) unveiled the team behind its captivating social media posts and photographs of suspects and scenes of crimes.

The making of the faces public caused a frenzy on social media, on Tuesday, February 1, with Kenyans asking for personal details of the individuals in the DCI Communications team.

DCI posted photographs of the communications team that is in charge of the creative crime reports, pictures and images shared on the different platforms.

Kenyans praised the DCI team for keeping them updated, further noting that the Communications officers have been very active in their craft of delivering news and updates in a rather interesting and unconventional way.

In the hilarious comments shared by Kenyans on Facebook, some imitated phrases and vocabulary the DCI Communications team uses while reporting on incidents.

The DCI communications team has made a name for itself for delivering novel-like narratives on crime, going ahead to borrow from the Shakespearean language as described by the Washington Post in a feature on the team.

Since George Kinoti took over as the head of the directorate, he instituted changes that have seen the communications grow, with the DCI's social media pages becoming the go-to place for Kenyans for security updates.

Inspector Michael Mugo, the officer in charge of the DCI's Corporate Communication and Public Affairs had in a past interview explained how the team has achieved success.

The team is also solidified by Mwanajum Shame who authors the captivating statements in Kiswahili.

“People love the way we do it in Swahili. They even recommend that we translate all the English posts to Swahili. We always choose which ones are to be posted in either of the two languages," Shame stated during an interview.

But the most notable team member is Jonah Kimani who is the brains behind the catchy and fiction-like narrations on crime. He is known for his command of English and creativity, which comes to play when he gives details on the security updates.

“Kenyans from top to bottom have embraced Twitter as their source of information… What I’ve learned is that people want thrills. You must feed your followers. That’s how the word gets out,” Kimani told WaPo in a 2021 interview.
