  • The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has clarified reports that have been shared widely regarding the registration timelines of the KCSE, KCPE examinations.

Parents, teachers and students were hoodwinked into believing that both public and private schools had until February 28 to register students for the 2022 national exams. This report was officially flagged off by KNEC as fake and misleading.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, an official from the Ministry of Education confirmed that the registration period for the 2022 KCPE and KCSE candidates had not yet been opened.

The official added that the Ministry would communicate and make the information public about the registration timeline at a later date.

This comes as a recent court ruling gave the green light for KNEC to merge all exam centres with less than 30 candidates. This comes despite an application filed by a parent seeking to allow students to sit in their respective institutions.

The parents argued that they would be burdened by extra costs coupled with the dire economic situation due to the high cost of living.

Justice Anthony Mrima of the High Court, however, ruled in favour of the examinations council.

KNEC defended the merger, stating that it would enhance the security and safety of candidates and examiners, address transportation challenges as well as cut the rising administration costs.

The 2022 academic calendar will have five national examinations posing a challenge to all education stakeholders in terms of preparation and supervision of exams.

Class 8 and Form 4 candidates will sit their exams in March and April 2022 respectively while those in Class 7 and Form 3 will transition to the upper class in late April 2022 and sit their KCPE and KCSE exams in November and December 2022 respectively.

Grade 5 learners began their continuous assessment tests on Tuesday, February 1.
