President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita has finally resigned to join the murky world of politics as he eyes the  Machakos gubernatorial seat.

Through a statement released on Wednesday, February 9, Waita announced that he had tendered his resignation as Kenyatta's Chief of Staff ending his seven-year stint.

Waita expressed his gratitude to the Head of State for granting him the opportunity to serve in his administration in different capacities.

"As I bid farewell to the House on the Hill, I wish to thank President for the honour of appointing me to be a member of his administration and for allowing me the humbling privilege to serve the people of Kenya in various different capacities over the past seven years," part of his statement read.

In his farewell message, Nzioka also appreciated Deputy President William Ruto in the role he played, enabling him to execute his duties effectively.

"I extend my sincere gratitude to the Cabinet, the Principal Secretaries, the PDU team, the Cabinet Office, and all my colleagues at State House for their immense support during my tenure. I further wish to appreciate Deputy President William Ruto, the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i," Nzioka added.

He further appreciated Cabinet Secretaries among other top government officials within President Kenyatta's inner circle.

“I will work till the 9th of February at 5 pm. I will then make a farewell call to the president and ask for his blessings and support as well as thank him for allowing me to work for the people of Kenya in his service,” he stated during his past TV interview.

Waita indicated that he will be seeking to convince the electorate to vote him as the next Machakos governor arguing that their resources will be in safe hands.

Already he has hit the ground with his gubernatorial bid noting that he was being pressured by some individuals to drop from the race.

He asserted that he remains unmoved by the alleged coercion, saying he is ready to embark on campaigns as he seeks to popularise his agenda.

“I want to say something today. There are a lot of people who have given me pressure as they do not want me to vie for the seat.

“There are senior politicians from this region who are saying that I should shelve my ambitions in favour of an MP so that others can battle it out for the governor's seat,” he disclosed.
