2019 Global Teacher Prize winner Peter Tabichi has championed a Ksh68 million prize targeting individuals with innovative ideas in the Education Sector.
In a statement, Tabichi noted that the prize, dubbed the 2022 Klaus J. Jacobs Best Practice, targets entrepreneurs, non-profits and research organisations.
It is intended to allow educators around the world to learn about the innovative solutions they have developed to help transform education for the better, as the sector recovers from the pandemic.
From all the applicants, three Best Practice Prizes will be awarded in September 2022 - each worth Ksh22.7 million ($200,000) bringing the total to Ksh68 million for the trio.
The application period is open till Thursday, February 10, 2022.
“I strongly encourage Africa’s trailblazing education innovators to apply for the Klaus J. Jacobs Best Practice Prizes. Now more than ever, in the age of Covid, we need examples of what education practices work on the ground.
"The pandemic disrupted learning for over 1.6 billion students, including more than 250 million primary and secondary school children throughout Africa who were affected by school closures. We need visionaries to help us face up to the challenges posed by Covid-19, but it is equally important to make sure that ground-breaking ideas can be applied to benefit as many children as possible," Tabichi stated.
Awarded every other year, the Klaus J. Jacobs Best Practice Prizes honour outstanding achievement and practice in advancing quality education.
The foundation's CEOs thanked Tabichi for his proactive role in the sector for advancing education to marginalised children.
“By showcasing examples of best practice on the ground, we can help to shift policy and ensure that all children have access to quality education. As education systems adapt to new and unfamiliar terrain, there is not a moment to lose. We must bring to light the evidence of what works and use it to implement solutions that can be tailored to learners’ diverse individual needs – both here in Africa and globally.

While on the platform, they are expected to provide personal details such as full names, mobile phone numbers and email addresses.
After filling out a form detailing their ingenious idea, the applicants are urged to submit and wait for their entries to be judged.
