Standard Media Group has embarked on a hiring spree following a mass exit that has hit the media station in the recent past.

The media company that owns a number of brands including The Standard Newspaper, KTN Home, KTN News, Radio Maisha, Vybez Radio, Spice FM among others, is now seeking to fill some of the positions left vacant.

Reconstituting its editorial that was heavily dented by the exits is the on the management's to-do-list.

Some of the positions up for grabs include Checkpoint editor, City Editor, Program Editor for KTN News among others.

The media group is also seeking a number of reporters ranging from investigative reporters, radar reporters, economy reporters, political, national, and others for their Kisumu Bureau.

Standard is also looking to recruit more sub-editors in the echo department, entertainment and national. The positions have mostly been reserved for their internal employees with the aim of enhancing promotions within the media house.

The new recruitment drive has also been informed of the latest changes made by the media company in converging their newsroom and also rebranding.

This decision also follows a series of exits from the company with the latest case involving one of the long-serving anchors, Akisa Wandera who ended her six-year-stint with the station. The prime time news anchor is expected to join the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) headquartered in London, UK.

News anchor Linda Ogutu also left the station in late 2021 following her appointment as the head of the Secretariat to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) caretaker committee.

Ben Kitili joined NTV as Deputy Managing Editor. Kenyans.co.ke reliably understands that Roselyn Obala is the latest top talent to quit the Mombasa road-based giant media house. Obala was last year appointed Standard Group's Political Affairs Editor before she was redeployed as City Editor months later. Obala is said to be crossing over to the Nation Media Group.

If latest media transfers are anything to go by, then NMG appears to have found Standard Group to be a perfect poaching ground. Other top presenters and journalists who left the Moi-owned company and headed to Kimathi Street's Twin Towers include Lofty Matambo, Fridah Mwaka and Brian Obuya who joined NTV at different times in 2021.
