The government has issued a warning to Kenyans against purchasing various pieces of land belonging to a state corporation.

While speaking to the media on Thursday, February 17, Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) Director, Richard Ngomo, revealed that many Kenyans were being duped into purchasing ADC lands being offered at cheap prices.

He noted that the state corporation had many pieces of land across the country adding that innocent Kenyans we losing their money through fraudulent schemes.

Njomo gave the example of the Coast region where Kenyans had bought over 500,000 pieces of land amounting to Ksh25 billion.

The director added that part of the 1.75 million acres of land for the Galana Kulalu project had been encroached with many dwellers purchasing the pieces of land below the market value.

He insisted that none of the ADC land had not been put up for sale by the government.

“ADC land is not for sale. ADC has not given land, especially in the Coast region. Anybody purporting to be selling ADC land is doing so at his own risk.

“Any developer wanting to buy land knows the channels of getting land from private entities, but for public land, as far as ADC is concerned, is not available for disposal at this point in time,” he stated.

On his part, Ephantus Murage, who chairs the ADC Lands, Legal and Partnership Committee revealed that the growing trend of fraud involved scrupulous land surveyors noting that most Kenyans did not have information on how to identify government land.

He advised Kenyans to always compare the prices being offered to them and those of developed land in those areas. He added that the prices should vary between Ksh5,000 to Ksh10,000.

“We cannot also blame people who are being settled on an adjudicated area, because for one, for the land to be adjudicated, it must, first of all, be described with coordinates, gazetted, and this is done by professionals.

“ The public cannot be blamed because they rely on us as professionals. Immediately a surveyor like me shows you the land you are buying, and I show you some beacons, whether theoretical or have coordinates, automatically you will believe them, he stated.

ADC has various pieces of land in Nakuru, Garissa, Laikipia, Mt. Elgon, Molo, and Kitale among pieces of land across the 47 counties.
