Reprieve as Govt Extends Mass Issuance of Title Deeds

Residents of Nairobi's Embakasi Ranching Company can now heave a sigh of relief after the Ministry of Lands extended the mass title deeds issuance exercise.

In a notice published in the dailies, February 20, the government state announced that it had extended the leasing exercise to Friday, February 25, at 9:00 a.m.

The exercise is set to allow those who are yet to sign their leases for ownership of the parcel to complete the process.

Initially, the exercise, which is being undertaken by the Ministry of Lands since a directive from President Uhuru Kenyatta, was slated to end on Friday, February 18.

"The Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning has extended the ongoing Embakasi Ranching Company plot owners lease signing exercise for one week from from Monday, February 21, to Friday February 25, 2022.

"This will allow the remaining plot owners to sign their leases," read the statement in part.

The notice further cautioned participants to observe the Ministry of Health protocols and urged them to arrive for presentation before Friday, February 25.

"All plot owners are requested to present themselves at the Embakasi Ranching Company offices (Ruai) before Friday, February 25, 2022 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 pm with all your documents as proof of ownership for your plot," the notice added.

In the initial directive, the Ministry hit all the applicants with a raft of requirements targeting individuals, companies as well as self-help groups.

Individuals are expected to carry 3-coloured passports, an original and a copy of their National Identification Card, copy of the share certificates as well as a copy of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN certificate.

Companies must present a copy of the certificate of registration, a copy of KRA PIN certificate and a certified copy of CR12.

Other requirements expected of companies include copies of the KRA PIN as well as National IDs of the directors and three coloured passports of each director.

For self-help groups, partners must present the certificate of registration, copies of the KRA PIN as well as National IDs of the trustees and three coloured passports of each trustee.

President Uhuru launched the programme in August 2020 after the firm, Embakasi Ranching Company, ran into financial headwinds.
