The debate on Deputy President William Ruto's wealth has resurfaced in parliament after a member of the August house asked for a report regarding part of the DP's property.

While speaking before the floor of the House on Wednesday, February 23, Nominated Member of Parliament David Sankok asked parliament to compel Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to disclose details of land alleged to belong to Ruto.

The ally of the DP asked the CS to furnish the August house with information pertaining to an Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) land located in Laikipia County.

Sankok added that it was prudent for the CS to provide information over the land which was said to be around 15,000 acres. He stated that there was need for Kenyans to know the truth regarding the land.

"Could the CS provide specific details of the parcel of land located in Laikipia County which he claimed is owned by the Deputy President during his appearance before the Committee on Administration and National Security on September 1, 2021?

"He should include the land reference number, size, date of acquisition, and the previous ownership," Sankok stated.

On his part, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, who was chairing the session, stated that the matter would be handled by the House Committee on Administration and National Security.

While appearing before the the committee on security, Matiang'i furnished lawmakers with documents indicating that the government had deployed six officers to guard ADC Mutara ranch.

This was after some of the security personnel manning the official residence of Ruto in Karen were withdrawn, causing uproar among a section of his supporters across the country.

However, while hosting leaders from Narok County on September 9, 2021, Ruto dismissed the report stating that he did not own the ADC land.

He asked the government to show proof that he owned the land further daring Matiang'i to distribute the land to locals that had been displaced following skirmishes that had been witnessed in the area.

“The report was 70 per cent right but they added me some property like the ADC land that is not mine

“There has been a lot of propaganda lately and I want to tell those who said that I own a 15,000-acre land in Laikipia to subdivide it and give it to Kenyans. I have given you the authority,” the DP dared.
