An exclusive lodge at the foot of Mt Kenya has been hailed as a getaway experience for the high and mighty- whereby they spend a fortune in order to indulge in an unforgettable adventure. 

Situated in Borana conservancy in Laikipia County, Sirai House sits on a 250-acre estate that is surrounded by forests and hills for nature enthusiasts. The vast estate offers state-of-the-art features that give tourists and locals various options to choose from during their stay.

But in order to set foot at this lodge, one can pay up to Ksh1.6 million a night with a minimum stay of three nights. So what makes this exclusive five-star lodge so expensive?

Features

The vast estate consists of six private suites that are divided into four:

Master Suite: As the name sounds, this lodge is unrivaled in terms of space and comfort. From a large dressing room area, retractable doors, a private terrace, and an infinity pool that stretches far beyond the eye can see, the Master suite provides a thrilling experience for those seeking an adventure.

Suite 2: Located a few metres away from the Main House, the second suite is characterised by stone fabrics and elegant furniture. The bedroom, bathroom, and sitting area are all connected together. A private terrace also leads to an outdoor rain shower that offers an elegant view.

Suite 3&4: In order to utilize the space in the estate, the two Suites are connected to a large shared drawing-room. This offers an ideal space for a private retreat or also a nice chilling spot on the veranda. 

Suite 5&6: Dubbed as the magical hideaway, the rooms of the suites are located furthest from the main house. The suites are set amongst tree-tops with a private wooden walkway leading to a secret viewing platform. The suites are filled with reed roofing, wooden bathtubs in order to bring out the African experience. 

Other features include a helipad, stables and studio menage, tennis court, spa retreat, a pool house and gym.

Owner

The exclusive lodge was established by British billionaire and politician, Michael Spencer in 2012. 

Born in 1955 in the United Kingdom, Spencer and his family moved to Sudan and Ethiopia before resettling back in their home country of Britain. 

Spencer founded NEX Group (formerly Intercapital Brokers), which he later sold to CME Group for Ksh614 billion. After the deal, Spencer was granted 3 million shares of CME. 

He also runs IPGL Group- a privately owned holding company that possesses more than Ksh152 billion in assets. Spencer ventured into politics in 2006, serving as the Treasurer of the Conservative party for four years.

Since then, he contributed immensely to the party politics and in 2020 he was bestowed upon peerage by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and currently sits in the House of Lords. Aside from Sirai House, Lord Spencer also has another private home located on a clifftop based in Kilifi. 

According to Forbes, Spencer has a net worth of Ksh125 billion.
