Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga is the latest leader allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta to leave Jubilee Party for Deputy President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Kahiga announced on Saturday, February 26, that he will be defending his seat in the August polls via a UDA Party ticket.

Governor Kahiga was officially welcomed to the party by DP Ruto and his allies from the Mt Kenya region as they pitched camp in Nyeri County.

The leaders hailed him for reprimanding Azimio la Umoja presidential hopeful Raila Odinga in public. They also thanked him for asking Odinga to stop concentrating on historical events but rather tell Mt Kenya residents the development projects he would focus on if elected President in 2022.

At the rally in Nyeri today, Governor Kahiga urged Nyeri residents to remember that they are children of Mau Mau revolutionists who have a history of not wavering when they choose a leader they want to support.

Kahiga, on Friday, November 26 defended himself against criticism for reprimanding Raila as he explained that his sentiments on the ODM party leader's history narration were not a lecture but an expression of the opinion of Nyeri residents.

Speaking Nyeri today DP Ruto noted that President Uhuru Kenyatta will be going home after the August polls. He acknowledged Uhuru's development record.

He further explained that the development agenda was not to be credited to Azimio la Umoja. "Even when they call us cons we are the reason Uhuru Kenyatta is president today," DP Ruto remarked.

The DP also threw veiled attacks at the President after his remarks at Sagana that his critics were using the bible to gain the church's support but in the background, they were siphoning money meant to fund facilitate development in certain regions.

"Some people are bothering themselves saying we are carrying bibles, I want to ask Azimio to respect us and forgive us because we haven't started carrying the bible yesterday. It is because of that bible we are where we are today and we shall reach our destination," he added.
