Sportpesa Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ronald Karauri, came to the rescue of 45 families who lost their property through a fire incident in Kasarani, Nairobi County.
According to preliminary reports, the fire started in one of the rental houses in the wee hours of Monday, February 28.
However, the police are yet to give a conclusive report on the cause of the fire as investigations are still ongoing.
Residents stated that the lady whose house was first to go up on flames was yet to give her side of the story as it is reported that she ran away after the incident fearing that the residents would turn against her.
During his visit to the families, Karauri donated household stuff to help the families as they pick up the pieces.
The Sportpesa boss was accompanied by a team of well-wishers.
The CEO stated that most of the families were struggling to come to terms with the losses asking more well-wishers to offer assistance to them.
"I am extremely saddened to hear about the massive fire that engulfed 45 households in Gatuoro village in Ruai Ward, Kasarani constituency. My heart goes out to all those families that have been rendered homeless due to this horrible accident.
"What’s more disturbing is that the residents, who include the parents of a one-week-old baby, had to put out the fire themselves and reach out to neighbors and other well-wishers as they tried to salvage the little they could while trying to safeguard themselves," he stated.
His visit came hours after he shared the plight of the victims on his social media pages.
"I have spoken to the local authorities and I promise to provide any assistance that they may require to help them rebuild and get back on their feet.
"Most of the tenants are casual labourers. They used to pay rent Ksh1,500 per month. The urgent needs are meals, fare to go to family members or shags, at least some money to rent elsewhere as they wait for the landlady to rebuild," he added.
