A court in Nyeri County has issued an arrest warrant against Embu Governor Martin Wambora alongside three county officials.

The Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nyeri faulted the governor alongside County Secretary County Jason Nyaga, the Finance and Economic Planning Executive John Njagi and his Chief Officer Ruth Ndirangu for failing to appear in court for sentencing.

Last week, the four officials were found in contempt of court over Kenya County Government Workers' Union statutory fees remittance.

Justice Njagi Marete noted that the officials defied a court order issued in December instructing them to oblige to the directive.

In line with the order, Justice Marete directed the OCS Nyeri Police station to arrest the four officials.

In October 2021, workers within the country had staged a demonstration citing poor working conditions as well as salaries as part of their grievances.

The workers accused governor Wambora and the County Public Service Board for failing to adhere to their plea.  Other workers intimated that they could not access loans as they had been blacklisted by the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

In 2017, Governor Wambora was also on the spot after he was accused for failing to effect payments for sacked County Assembly employees despite an initial order.

Justice Monica Mbaru effected the orders after the employees had sued Wambora and two other county officials over the unlawful sacking.

The sacked workers argued that their constitutional rights were violated - stating that they weren't given warning letters before their dismissal.
