"In January 2021, university student Lawrence Warunge allegedly murdered four members of his family and a farmhand at their home in Kiambu, later revealing that he was inspired by Villanelle, Jodie Comer’s unhinged assassin in the British spy thriller Killing Eve.

"This tragic event, which shook the nation and made headlines for weeks, inspired this week’s episode of Crime and Justice, “Slaughterhouse”, the statement read in part.

Drawing parallels to the actual incident, the episode will see the two detectives probe an incident where three family members are found dead in their home.

"With no motive, no murder weapon and a recluse teenager who survives the incident, Silas and Makena must determine what really happened," the statement added.

The episode has been authored by Voline Ogutu, one of the new writers who joined the second season alongside Damaris Irungu.

Warunge was arrested by police officers on January 9, 2021, after investigating officers fished him from his hideout in Kabete, Kiambu County. He was accused of killing his father, mother, brother, and a farmhand in their home in Kiambu.

The 22-year-old initially confessed to committing multiple homicides upon questioning by investigators. His claims were corroborated by autopsy reports of post mortems conducted on his victims.

His girlfriend Sarah Muthoni who was named as his accomplice was also taken into police custody. According to the detectives, Warunge had coerced Muthoni to aide him, promising her a better and peaceful life.

However, the prosecution turned Muthoni into a state witness to help in investigating the murders. The two were subjected to mental assessments which declared them unfit for trial.

Warunge underwent a second test in April 13 which declared him fit for trial. The results introduced a twist in the case as he pleaded not guilty to all five counts of murder.
