There was drama along the busy Mombasa Road after a traffic police officer and a motorist were recorded fighting in the middle of the highway, causing a traffic snarl-up.

Nation FM show host Tina Kaggia shared the video online on Thursday, March 17, capturing the events that caught the public attention.

In the clip, the cop and the motorist can be seen rolling on the highway, with the latter pulling the former towards him as they both grappled to pin each other.

Two other individuals, seemingly boda boda riders, can also be seen trying to separate the two who were wrestling.

A passer-by with a backpack joined in to help break the fight.

At that time, the cop managed to break free and took a step back from the motorist who was then attacking him.

From a glimpse, the cop's shirt appeared torn, with its top buttons missing.

His lanyard was also pulled out of its positioning on the uniform. A lanyard is a rope or cord worn around the shoulder, wrist or neck to carry an object.

Most commonly, guards attach it to a whistle tucked into the shirt pocket. In the military, it is at times used to secure a pistol, which is inside a holster fastened to the uniform belt.

The cop scampered away to safety towards the other lane and can be seen touching his chin in pain, apparently inflicted by a heavy blow

He was chased after by the motorist who engaged him in a heated confrontation.

The police appeared to be explaining the cause of the altercation to onlookers and other motorists. It was not yet ascertained why the two fought.

However, the confrontation happened right in front of a parked BMW car whose bonnet was open. The car and another white Nissan Note blocked other motorists from accessing the highway.

Meanwhile, motorists were stuck on Mombasa Road for several morning hours, complaining that they were forced to use one overpass near Allpack Industries. Major city routes experienced heavy traffic Wednesday evening partly because of political rallies held within the metropolis.
