Nairobi County Assembly majority leader Abdi Guyo is grieving following the loss of his four family members in a road accident on Monday March 28.

The crash happened when the car they were travelling in was involved in an accident on their way to Isiolo from Nairobi.

Those who died include his brother's wife and two of their children while two other children survived the accident.

"They were travelling to Isiolo and were just a few kilometres from Isiolo before the unfortunate incident happened," said Kariobangi South MCA Robert Mbatia, a close friend of Guyo.

The incident was also confirmed by Isiolo County Commissioner.

The loss comes days after Isiolo governor Mohamed Kuti endorsed Guyo for the gubernatorial seat in the August 8 General Election.

In Nairobi, he has been the majority leader under Jubilee party and has been vocal on a number of issues involving the county including the impeachment of former Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

His decision to join the governorship race follows the health status of Dr Kuti who is quitting politics because of ill health.

Kuti affirmed the Matopeni MCA Guyo, who had declared interest in the Embakasi Central parliamentary seat, is best placed to succeed him.

“I have consequently dropped my re-election quest,” Kuti stated after meeting leaders and elders from his Sakuye clan in Nanyuki.

The 58-year-old governor has  only served for one term and has been in active politics having represented Isiolo North in parliament for two terms and one term as senator between 2013 and 2017 .

“I have consequently dropped my re-election quest,” Kuti remarked.

Guyo has 15 years experience from serving as Kayole’s Matopeni/Spring Valley MCA.

However, Guyo has to wait for a nod from the Borana community, through the council of elders who have been consulting with the aim of uniting the county in what has been described as negotiated democracy.
