The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the closure of Nyeri Road in Nairobi for four days beginning Thursday, March 31.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, KURA notified the public that the road in up-market estate of Kileleshwa will remain inaccessible until Sunday, April 3.

"We wish to alert the general public that there will be traffic disruption along Nyeri Road from 6.00am on Thursday, March 31 to Sunday, April 3 at 6.00pm," read the statement in part.

The authority explained that the closure will pave way for rehabilitation of the road and the installation of a culvert after Kenton Primary School.

Motorists have been asked to remain patient and use alternative routes during the temporary closure. KURA regretted the inconveniencies that may arise from the same.

"We apologize for any inconveniences that may be caused as we endeavor to enhance urban mobility," KURA remarked.

The new development falls in line with the plan by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), working in conjunction with KURA, to improve the state of roads in the city.

In July 2021, NMS Director General, Mohammed Badi, unveiled a plan that would see the improvement of roads in the Central Business District (CBD) and on the outskirts.

"We are first going to do major roads in the city before we go into estates. Every road connecting to estates will be done. We do not want to move outside the city centre without having every road re-carpeted,” Badi stated.

The plan was intended not only to boost traffic flow but also to ease perennial gridlocks in the city.
