The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a traffic advisory to motorists plying the busy Mombasa Road and Waiyaki Way.
In a public notice issued Thursday, February 4, KeNHA stated that traffic snarl-ups would be experienced in six sections along the listed routes due to the ongoing construction of the Nairobi Expressway.
KeNHA advised motorists to use alternative routes nothing that plans were in advanced levels to ensure that traffic between Mlolongo and Westlands (the stretch covering the Nairobi Expressway) is manageable.
The government agency noted that it had created a two-lane diversion between Hilton Garden Inn Hotel and Gateway Mall in Syokimau due to increased construction works along Mombasa Road.
Additionally, KeNHA stated that it was putting up a ramp at the Eastern Bypass interchange and an alternative route for motorists using the route has been provided.
“Even as the civil works are ongoing, traffic management from Mlolongo - Westlands remains a critical component of the project implementation so as to reduce relative ease of movement and safety for all road users.
“Traffic will be experienced along slip road from the North Airport Road to Mombasa Road at the Eastern Bypass interchange. The contractor is currently back lifting the permanent on-ramp at that location. Currently, a paved detour has been provided for use,” KeNHA stated.
Motorists were also advised to take caution at the Mlolongo area where a footbridge is being erected.
“At Mlolongo area, there is a new pedestrian footbridge being constructed and we advise motorists to exercise precaution when they are approaching the area,” read the notice in part.
Further, motorists were also reminded of the diversions around General Motors area and new sections that have been introduced at Mlolongo.
“U-turn from All Pack service road where access from the service lane to Mombasa Road has been blocked to reduce congestion of the main carriageway. Motorists on the service road who wish to make a turn will have to do so at Mlolongo.”
Along Waiyaki Way, KeNHA noted that the construction of the Expressway between the Bunyala Roundabout and University Way was still ongoing and traffic disruptions would continue being experienced.
KeNHA reiterated that the Nairobi Expressway is 86.7 per cent complete with the project expected to be launched in March 2022.
