Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has announced the placement of over 1.2 million pupils who sat their KCPE exams in March this year.
Speaking in Nairobi on Monday, April 11, the CS noted that the selection and placement of students in secondary schools was done through a computerized system.
CS Magoha announced that parents and candidates who sat the 2021 KCPE can check their selection remotely using SMS or on the Ministry of Education website.
For SMS options, candidates are required to send only their index number to 22263. Alternatively, they can also access their selection results on the website www.education.go.ke.
Schools can also access a complete list of their candidates' Form One selection by accessing the National Education Management Information System Nemis portal.
38,797 candidates were placed in national schools, 214,960 in extra county, 258,456 in county schools, 726,311 in Sub-county schools and 2,045 in special needs schools.
Magoha noted with concern that a number of KCPE candidates struggled with selecting schools noting that they had not received proper guidance on the same. He urged parents and teachers to step in and assist them in the process.
"This scenario can be avoided if candidates are offered relevant guidance during the selection process by teachers and parents. Relevant Ministry officials must also move in to have in place proper sensitisation programmes on the Form One selection process," stated Magoha.
Form One students will to report to school on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Students will have to physically report to their respective schools with principals asked not to admit students on the Nemis portal unless the same condition is met.
The CS noted that his Ministry will work with the Ministry of Interior under the helm of CS Fred Matiang'i to ensure that all learners join secondary schools.
In line with the 100 per cent transition policy, Magoha announced that the government will be offering 9,000 scholarships to needy students. However, he added that 4,000 of the same will be preferred to students from urban informal settlements.
The CS elaborated that the bursaries and scholarships should be given to needy children and children in boarding schools since the state caters to children in day school.
