2020 KCPE top student, Faith Mumo, could not hide her emotions after receiving a free ride through high school in the form of a full four-year scholarship.

The candidate, who scored 433 out of 500 marks, broke down into tears after Matungulu MP - Stephen Mutinda - offered to pay her school fees through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

On Tuesday, July 20, the Kari Mwailu Primary School alumnus vowed to impress her sponsors and parents and give back to society once she completes her secondary education.

"I want to thank the NG-CDF committee, and particularly the MP, for being kind. I promise to work hard in school and promise everyone that I will make dreams come true for other girls one day as it is my dream.

“I thank all Kenyans who listened to my cry. When I achieve my dream, I'll come back to support other girls and boys to access education," the 14-year-old pledged.

Her mother thanked the area MP and urged him to support other needy students. Mutinda acknowledged the mother’s plea stating that he set aside Ksh34 million in the DF kitty which will fund education bursaries.

Mutinda issued Mumo a Ksh120,000 dummy cheque which will cater for her Form One education at Kenya High School. The amount will be deposited directly in the school’s bank accounts.

Mumo was set to miss enrolling at the Kenya High School and later on pursue neurosurgery as her parents lacked funds to support her dreams.

She had, earlier on, lamented that well-wishers who had assured her of support left her stranded, a few weeks to school reopening - August 2.

Her father was rendered jobless during the Covid-19 pandemic which saw firms retrench and cut employees salaries to stay afloat. The accountant opted for small scale farming and other menial jobs to make ends meet.

“God loves me so much! Indeed he loves me. I can’t believe I will be joining the school,” Mumo cried.
