"Thank you  Sabina Chege for paying me a visit in my rural home in Enooretet, Kilgoris," Letoo stated after the meeting.

Sabina paid Letoo a visit after holding a series of Azimio grassroots rallies in Narok county accompanied by senators Ledama Ole Kina and Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang.

Letoo has been at the centre of Citizen TV coverage of Azimio la Umoja rallies across the country. Samuel Kamau Macharia or simply SK Macharia, the RMS owner, has publicly endorsed Azimio presidential flag-bearer Raila Odinga.

However, there have been questions as to whether media houses in the country should declare their political leaning, and whether such a move affects objectivity.

The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), David Omwoyo recently issued a statement regarding journalists seeking elective positions.

Omwoyo explained that despite MCK directing journalists who have expressed interest to vie for elective seats to resign six months before the election, they should be discouraged from completely withdrawing from the practice.

“We encourage them to join politics, we do not say that if you go to politics, you stop being a journalist," he remarked.

So far, several media personalities have declared interest in joining politics, including Njogu wa Njoroge, Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o, Njambi Koikai, Tony Kwalanda, Bonnie Musambi and Mwanaisha Chidzuga.

In covering polls, the Kenya Editors’ Guild and the Kenya Union of Journalists previously signed a memorandum of understanding with the electoral agency to facilitate reporting on the August 9 General Election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Officer Marjan Hussein Marjan who witnessed the inking of the deal noted that the partnership will ease the media’s work of disseminating relevant and verifiable information.

"The MoU is meant to ensure there is transparency in results transmission during the August 9 General Election and also to ease reporting of the events leading to election day." Marjan explained.

CEO of the Kenya Editors Guild Rosalia Omungo applauded the deal noting that it will enable journalists cover political stories objectively.

"The MoU will allow easy access to data and information required to do all-round stories about elections. The media will do whatever it takes to make sure they deliver on their mandate," Omungo explained.
