Detectives are analysing CCTV footage retrieved from a hotel in Igembe North, Meru County, which implicated a county employee in the murder of her husband.

The lady, a gender officer, was arrested on Wednesday, April 20, after being accused of stabbing the husband, a Judiciary officer in the neck following an altercation between the two at the hotel.

Police officers handling the case alleged that the couple differed over a waitress who reportedly had an affair with the deceased. The case was filed at Muringine Police Station in Igembe Central.

According to the footage, the two were spotted entering the hotel at around 4 pm on Tuesday, April 19 but checked in an hour later. The woman was said to have driven the couple to the facility.

At 2:40 am the suspect was spotted leaving the hotel and boarding their vehicle. However, she did not leave the premises but stayed inside the car.

Police reported that the woman had stormed out of the hotel after finding the husband, who she was cohabiting with, in a compromising position with the waitress.

Minutes later, at around 3 am, on Wednesday, April 20, the deceased and the waitress walked out and headed towards the suspect’s car.

The Judiciary officer was seen boarding the car, leaving the waitress behind, as the suspect sped away.

“They drove towards Maua leaving the waiter behind. However, the deceased did not reach Maua. He was found murdered 3 kilometres from the hotel.

“The suspect went to their house at Maua and didn't make any report. The house was visited and the suspect was arrested. It was further established that the suspect had some injuries on her middle and fourth fingers already stitched,” the police report detailed.

Detectives suspected that an argument ensued between the two and escalated to a full-blown fight which led to the death of the Judiciary officer.

The woman also failed to explain the cause of the injury, with detectives arguing that she was hurt in the melee, as the deceased fought for his life.

“She was placed in custody to assist in the investigation,” police reported.

Detectives, later arraigned her and were allowed to hold her for 10 more days as they continue with investigations.
