The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has cautioned Kenyans to be wary of a new scam purporting to offer employment opportunities with a monthly salary of up to Ksh76,000.
In a statement on Thursday, April 21, KeNHA noted that official notices about vacancies are only published in local dailies and on the agency's website.
KeNHA warned Kenyans against falling into the traps of scammers seeking to steal their hard-earned cash.
"It has come to our attention that there are people purporting to be working for KeNHA and are sending employment offer letters to individuals."
"KeNHA vacant positions are only advertised through National Dailies and KeNHA website. Interviews are conducted for the shortlisted applicants and successful candidates are issued with official appointment offer letters. KeNHA does not ask for money for the recruitment process," the authority stated.
KeNHA highlighted a fake email sent to a victim, informing him that he had received a three-year contract to work for the Authority.
The mail indicated that the victim was expected to report on May 9, 2022, at their Head Office on Baraba Plaza Block A, Jomo Kenyatta International Aiport (JKIA), opposite KCAA headquarters.
For shortlisted candidates, the only catch would be to enroll at the Kenya Institute Of Highways & Building Technology (KIHBT) and undergo a one-week specialised training before the reporting date.
According to the mail, the tuition charges for the training was Ksh80,000- but the purported hiring notice only asked for Ksh40,000 from applicants.
The candidates were also required to share their personal documents such as Identification cards, Curriculum vitae, letter of recommendation, and KIHBT specialised course training certificate.
"If we do not hear from you by April 22, 2022, this offer will be automatically withdrawn. Accommodation will be provided during the training period, this arrangement is provided to you as an individual hence no spouse or children," read part of the fake letter.
