A meeting between Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja and Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi, on Friday night, April 22, has caused ripples in the political space.
Reports claimed that the two discussed the possibility of running on a joint ticket for the Nairobi gubernatorial race.
This is after Sakaja, shared pictures from the meeting captioned Si Mimi, Ni Sisi a phrase that Wanyonyi was using on his campaign.
But insiders who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke, rejected the reports adding that the two leaders did not meet to discuss if Wanyonyi will deputize Sakaja.
According to our insider, Sakaja will unveil his deputy in a few days' time.
Our sources maintained that the two leaders have mutual interests in Nairobi, with Sakaja eyeing the governor's seat and Wanyonyi returning to vie in Westlands.
Since Wanyonyi will be vying for the MP seat, insiders stated that it is crucial for Sakaja to create a good rapport with all lawmakers from Nairobi as he is seeking to unite the city if he clinches the seat in August.
Sakaja was said to be looking to work closely with all elected leaders across the political divide despite their political affiliations.
"Both leaders in the respective seats that they have chosen to run for ultimately seek to work to represent the aspirations of their constituents," our source stated.
"It is clear in their mantras, Sakaja’s being Let’s make Nairobi Work and Tim’s being Sio Mimi ni Sisi both allude that it is about the people and that resolve cuts across the political divide.
"Sakaja’s deputy that will be unveiled in the next coming days."
Earlier, Sakaja had criticized Azimio la Umoja principals for what he termed as shortchanging Tim Wanyonyi to step down in favour of former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe.
Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Presidential aspirant Raila Odinga unveiled Polycarp Igathe as the coalition's Nairobi gubernatorial candidate. Igathe will be deputised by Prof Phillip Kaloki, a Wiper Party politician.
MP Wanyonyi stepped down for Igathe and was said to be willing to defend his Westlands parliamentary seat, facing off with United Democratic Alliance Candidate, Nelson Havi.
