Former Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki, caused drama at the Jubilee Party headquarters protesting the move by the party to give Nyandarua governor, Francis Kimemia, a direct nomination to defend his seat.
The former CS is reported to have stormed the parkland headquarters on Friday, April 22, as the party officials were getting ready to issues the certificate to the incumbent.
Kimemia and Sicily have both expressed interests in flying the Jubilee flag in the Nyandarua gubernatorial contest.
The stalemate between the two candidates saw the party officials seek the intervention of President Uhuru Kenyatta and he is expected to have the final say on the party's candidate.
The party Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni, disclosed that the aspirants who fails to get the ticket will be offered the senatorial ticket.
"The party leader has the final say on this issue. Uhuru will personally call the confirmation candidate and also call the opponent to inform him or her of his decision and offer to the opponent," Kioni stated.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, an official at the party disclosed that discussions between the two candidates were ongoing as they look to resolve the stalemate before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) timelines on party nominations.
The official added that communication will be made public if a deal is reached between Kimemia and Kariuki.
Jubilee Party opted to pick candidates through consensus building among aspirants as opposed to universal suffrage adopted by other parties to tame potential fallout.
On his part, Kimemia asked his supporters to remain calm, adding that a deal will be reached before the IEBC timelines.
"We are optimistic about getting the certificate so that we can hit the ground running. I am confident the Jubilee Party will win all seats in Nyandarua, we have the campaign strategy.
"Some forces are determined to push me to contest as the independent candidate but I belong to Jubilee," he stated.
