American salesman and renowned author Joe Girard once said that the elevator to success is out of order. You will have to use the stairs one step at a time.

The adage identifies the old saying of hard work works, an attribute that is hailed by the likes of acclaimed actor Denzel Washington. In the case of Lyon Nachikula, he stared at a bleak future as his dream of joining Alliance High school was fading away.

However, four years later his family is in jubilation after he scored an A of 80 points in the just-released KCSE examinations results.

In 2018, his plight was shared across various platforms on social media as he couldn't raise enough money to join his dream school, Alliance. Nachikula, who studied at Itsowe Primary school in Tana River County, had scored 384 marks.

The student was lucky after he received his admission letter from Alliance High school, informing him that he had been selected to join the prestigious learning institution.

Nachikula, however, suffered a setback as his family was unable to raise funds for his education. Fearing that the opportunity might pass the bright boy, friends and family members rallied Kenyans-of-goodwill on social media to help raise the funds

"I am looking for 500 people to send Ksh500 and make a young man's dream of joining Alliance High come true. Meet Lyon Nachikula who sat for his KCPE at Itsowe Primary school, Tana River in 2017."

"He scored 384 points and has been called to join the national school but is about to lose that chance due to a lack of school fees. Anyone out there can help. He just needs Ksh53,000." read the online post.

The student was accorded a chance to join Alliance High school after scores of well-wishers generously responded to his plight.

Determined to excel in his studies, Nachikula kept his eye on the prize and toiled in order to reap the benefits at the national examinations. True to the cause, the student attained A grade of 80 points scoring English B+, Kiswahili A-, Biology A-, Physics B+, Chemistry A, Geology A and Computer Studies A.

Family and friends have since lauded the well-wishers for making Nachikula's dream come true.
