Two police officers facing murder charges for the brutal murder of lawyer Willie Kimani alongside his client and driver are now facing charges of killing another man.

In court documents, the suspects appeared before Machakos High Court Judge George Odunga to face the charges for the murder of Peter Musyoka, just three weeks before Willie Kimani's demise.

Officers Leonard Mwangi and Frederick Leliman will be charged alongside former Mlolongo OCS Stephen Lelei over Musyoka's murder which occurred on June 2, 2016, in Machakos County.

In yet another case, Leliman, a suspect in Willie's case, is also accused of being behind the murder of Jacob Mbai and Elizabeth Nduku in Mlolongo town in 2016.

He will be charged alongside former OCS Lelei over the murder. Officer Stephen Lelei made headlines when he was one of the heroes of the 2013 Westgate shopping mall attack.

The murder charges were approved by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji after the conclusion of the investigations.

High Court Judge Odunga ordered the police officers to undergo mental health assessment evaluation before they stand trial.

Suspects Leliman and Mwangi were charged alongside three other Administration Police officers for the murder of Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and driver Joseph Muiruri.

The three men were reportedly abducted on June 23, 2016,  shortly after leaving Mavoko law courts. Their bodies were, however, found a week later at the Ol Donyo Sabuk river.

The ODPP advocated for the approval of the murder charges on the officers

" Your ladyship we urge you to find the prosecution has discharged its burden of proof in respect of each accused person. We pray your ladyship to find all the accused persons guilty of the offence of murder, record conviction under section 322 of the Criminal Procedure code and pass the appropriate sentence,” read part of the ODPP statement.
