Double tragedy has hit a family in Baringo County after a father went into a coma upon learning about the fatal shooting of his son.

According to witnesses who spoke to the press on Sunday, May 8, a group of armed bandits attacked Kinyach Primary School teacher Stanley Kemboi and left him dead.

Kemboi had just finished taking care of his livestock when the attack happened.

His father, who was informed about his son's demise is now in a coma at Baringo County Hospital where his sister is also admitted.

The incident led to the closure of four more schools including Kinyach, Tiligwo, Ayatwa and Chemintany, pushing the number of learning institutions so far closed to 10.

The closure comes shortly after the Ministry of Education as well as that of Interior ordered all schools to reopen after months of tension and bloodletting in the troubled region.

The witnesses confirmed that the attacks have grown more intense despite the presence of police officers in the area to help quell the tensions.

"There is no one at Kinyach Primary School and there is nobody at Kinyach Secondary School. You won't want to see the deceased's body. He was shot several times.

"Even as we are complaining, the bandits continue to shoot us," stated one of the residents.

During the raid that left the teacher dead, over 200 heads of cattle were driven away by the bandits in a manner that locals claim has been repetitive.

For instance, it was reported that the bandits launched the attack by first stealing goats before driving away cows from several homesteads. Livestock keeping is the community's main source of income.

Since 2021, the police led by the Ministry of Interior has held an operation in the county to not only restore normalcy but also flush criminals and mop up illegal firearms.
