Wilson Airport Airspace To Be Closed on Saturday

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has announced a temporary closure of the Wilson Airport that will affect flights arriving and departing from the airport on Saturday, May 28.

According to the notice, the closure is due to the upcoming Kenya Defense Museum Air Show Festival that will take place at Uhuru Gardens along Lang’ata Road in Nairobi on the same day.

KCAA, the body tasked with regulating the airspace in the country, explained that the closure will last from 7am to 2pm.

Passengers have since been advised to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport.

"Passengers scheduled to travel on Saturday through Wilson Airport are advised to check with their respective airlines for flight status updates," the KCAA notice read in part.

Announcing the show on Monday, May 23, KDF noted that the one-day festival will incorporate drills that are usually showcased only during National holidays.

"The Kenya Defence Forces in conjunction with Aero Club will hold an exciting Museum Air Show Festival this Saturday, 28th May 2022 at Uhuru Gardens along Lang’ata Road in Nairobi.

"Led by Kenya Air Force, we will boast displays of both military and civilian aerobatic capabilities aimed at engaging and entertaining the public," a statement released by KDF read in part.

The festival has been organised in collaboration with other agencies and is aimed at showcasing military prowess and air capabilities.

"You are all invited to witness this spectacular show of scintillating aerobatics by Kenya Air Force jets and extreme maneuvers by a variety of helicopters in their inventory. The Kenya Wildlife Services will also display anti-poaching drills.

"Other participants will include: Phoenix Aviation Cessna Sovereign, Kenya Airways Embraer 190 fly-past, Farmland Aviation firefighting display and aerobatics by Mark Hensman from South Africa among others," KDF stated while extending the invitation to the general public.
