The Alchemist, a popular club in Nairobi, on Sunday, May 29, put into the spotlight by members of the public who were concerned by widespread reports of racial discrimination by having a special door reserved for white and Indian patrons.

In the video seen by Kenyans.co.kea reveller recorded the entertainment joint's bouncers asking sending away black Kenyans trying to use the entrance, asking them to join the queue reserved for Kenyans of African descent.

A black man spotted in a white t-shirt was seen joining the exclusive line but was immediately signalled by the bouncer at the entrance to get back and join his fellows on the other line.

Despite trying to negotiate with the bouncer, he was ordered out of the line by the towering bouncer, much to the dismay of the man who was standing in front of him and his fellows.

"Are they going to let him through that side just because he has an accent?" one of them questioned. "They have actually sent him back," they stated in great disbelief.

The security guards did this in plain sight of the revellers and despite the man behind the camera threatening to expose the joint on social media the following day.

"This is racist and I am going to record it and post it on Twitter tomorrow. There is a white person's line and a black people line," the party head declared.

Speaking to a Kenyans.co.ke, a representative at the club stated that the incident was unfortunate and that they were looking into the matter. He called for individuals who were victimized to avail themselves at the joint to help with investigations.

"By tomorrow (Monday, May 30), we will be able to know the security manager and the manager who was on duty at the very time so that we are able to ascertain what happened. Alchemist has been there for a very long time and we do not entertain racism," he stated.

Notably, this is not the first time that the club has been called out for discriminating its clients on basis of skin colour. In August 2018, the Alchemist apologised to a group of Kenyans who were allegedly racially abused by the establishment's bouncers.

"We have recently heard complaints from you that specifically contracted bouncers in our venue and spoken in a racist manner towards you and your friends. This is behaviour that we will ever condone or accept, we sincerely apologize for any hurt that this has caused," read the statement addressed to a victim identified as Cynthia.

The club dismissed the accused individuals from their security team, further promising to make clear its policy towards racism and inclusivity.
