Fresh details of a Kenyan man accused of going on a rampage and stabbing eight people in India on Thursday, June 2, have emerged.

According to preliminary reports by Indian authorities probing the knife attack incident, the Kenyan national has some underlying mental health issues.

The Indian police noted that the 50-year-old man changed his initial version of the story on what pushed him to attack random people on the streets.

"The attacker, a Kenyan national, was arrested by Azad Maidan police the same day of the attack, and the eight injured persons were admitted to a state-run hospital in south Mumbai.

"During the investigation conducted so far, it came light that the accused seems to have some mental health issues. He changed his versions and also spoke about God,” the Indian officials stated.

During the court hearing, detectives who are studying the CCTV footage that captured the incident, alleged that the Kenyan national had been spying the area for close to two months before committing the act.

Police are also trying to establish if there are any terror motives behind the attack. They are also questioning people close to him.

The detectives are further trying to find out how he entered India and his occupation in the country.

The Mumbai-based police officers were granted orders to detain the accused person until Monday to allow them more time to conduct further investigations.

Defending himself, the Kenyan denied the allegations and instead alluded to the Bible noting that God will punish his accusers.

"If you leave me alone, I will not complain about you. I will not file a case against them (the police). The living God is going to punish them," he stated.

The condition of those stabbed is yet to be made public by the Indian police handling the case.
