Best Public Transport Players Get Recognition in New Awards

Top players across different sectors in the transport industry will get a chance to prove their outstanding service in the newly launched Afrika Mashariki Transport Awards (AMTA). 

The awards, created in partnership with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, bring together different stakeholders across various sectors who will get rewarded for their years of efficiency and service delivery. 

The list of nominees was revealed during the AMTA media launch held at the Kenya Railways Headquarters on Tuesday, May 31. The list includes top-notch players across 17 categories who would battle it out to emerge the best during the award ceremony on Friday, July 15.

Prior to the awards gala, there shall be a three-day transport expo to be held between Wednesday, July 13 and Friday, July 15.

The expo will involve exhibitions from the players in the transport industry as well as an interactive session with key stakeholders such as the Office of the President, Ministry of Transport, National Police Service Commission, The Judiciary, Oil Marketers, Airline representatives, Logistics/ Haulier companies, Telcos, vehicle manufacturers, matatu and Boda Boda Association and members of the public among others. 

While making his remarks at the event, AMTA founder Edgar Meshack Obota revealed that he was passionate about the transport sector and hence delved to turn a vision he received from God in 2019 into fruition. It ultimately took him two and a half years in order to be turned into a reality. 

The award aims at celebrating staff or an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary qualities that led to the improvement of safety, compliance, and efficiency in the transport industry.

This includes the incorporation of technology in a bid to improve communication, innovation, and service delivery. 

For instance, nominees selected for the Matatu Sacco of the Year drew in nine nominees including Super Metro Sacco Ltd, City Star Shuttle Ltd, Ganaki Multipurpose Co-op Ltd, Kaka Travellers Sacco, Karuri Commuter Sacco, Nakam Sacco Ltd, Kangemi Matatu Owners Ltd, Xperia Sacco Ltd and Kenya Bus Service Ltd.

The domestic Airline of the year category consists of ten nominees such as Safari Express Cargo, Skyward Express, Kenya Airways, Reliance Air Charters, Corporate Helicopters, Safarlink Aviation, and Renegade Air, Jambojet, Fly540 and 748 Air Services. 

The award will not only appreciate different SACCOs, local airlines, courier service providers, Telcos, engineering projects as well as individuals but also individuals.
