DCI Top Detectives Flown to Italy After Winning Championship

Three detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have been flown to Italy to compete with their peers from other countries among them US and Italy.

In a statement released on Monday, June 27, the DCI announced that Kenya’s sharpshooter Agnes Muchiri, who scooped the top position in the recently concluded Kenya Sports Shooting Championship was leading the team in the global championship.

The team of three is taking part in the Swiss National Championship, 2022, being held at the Defense 360 Formazionne Range in Arcisate, Italy.

Representing Kenya are two other top detectives Serem Kipkemboi and Laban Mutembei, both avid marksmen posted in DCI’s specialized units.

"Kenya’s top lady shooter Agnes Muchiri, who scooped the top position in the recently concluded Kenya Sports Shooting Championship, is leading a strong Kenyan team of shooters in the Swiss National Championship, 2022.

"The detectives head to the finals of the challenge that has attracted other top shooters from the United States, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, Finland and Turkey," the DCI statement read in part.

Engineer Sammy Onyango, who is the head of the delegation in Italy, noted that he is upbeat that the team will emerge victorious.

On June 19, Agnes Muchiri won the ladies category in the Kenya Open Level 3 IPSC Championship that took place at the Shaba Shooting Range in Samburu.

Muchiri beat her competitors Carol Kiama (Chalbi) and Irene Wanjiku and she is also ranked as the Kenya Number 1 lady shooter.

In the men's category, Ibrahim Ndungu of Bamburi Shooting Club emerged victorious beating Inspector Adan Mohammed of the National Police Service and Thomas Kiilu.

At the same championship, Inspector Samuel Chacha, from the General Service Unit scooped the top award in the Standard division while Eng. Sammy Onyango finished second in the same category.

Cabinet Secretary for Sports Amb Amina Mohanmmed, who was the chief guest congratulated the competitors for their professionalism in weapon handling and displaying a spirit of sportsmanship.
