Former Daily Nation managing editor Joe Kadhi is dead.
According to Kadhi's family, the veteran journalist passed on at a hospital in Nairobi.
Various journalists have eulogized Kadhi as the godfather of print media as he had amassed over 20 years in the profession.
"Sad day; veteran journalist Joe Kadhi has passed on. We have lost a mentor, professional guardian, legendary trainer and a pioneer of the golden generation, "Citizen TV's Linus Kaikai stated.
He will be interred on Thursday, June 30, according to Muslim customs.
Kadhi also had stints as a lecturer at various institutions including the University of Nairobi (UoN), United States International University Africa (USIU) and Addis Ababa University.
The media trainer had established himself as a seasoned editor, winning the lifetime achievement award at the 2015 Media Council's Annual Journalism Excellence Awards. He also chaired the editorial board of the Media Observer magazine.
One of his former students, Teddy Otieno, remembered Kadhi for his articulate mastery of objective reporting which transcended print journalism.
"He was a great man. The phrase 'publish and be damned,' his mastery of the cardinal role of objective reporting and the nuts and bolts of journalism, will forever have a place in the history of media practice in Africa," Otieno stated.
Kadhi played a key role in preparing journalists for election coverage during the 2017 General Election. "Journalists’ should not shirk their cardinal role on objective reporting, irrespective of the bruising political contest."
"They also need to be trained on how audience engagement editors are guiding online discussions," he once stated.
