A family in the UK is raising money to airlift their ailing mother to London after she was left homeless barely four years after returning to Kenya.
A report by Leeds Live on Sunday, July 3, indicated that the mother, identified as Rose, had flown back into Kenya to live on land belonging to her grandfather but she was not received well by her Kenyan family.
According to Rose's daughter Peris Newlove, her mother was shunned by her family since she did not have any money when she flew back to Kenya.
She only had a suitcase with her belongings and the cash she had on her was enough to get her a flight ticket back into the country.
"This is a very difficult time for me as my mother Rose decided to go back to Kenya but she has found herself in a bad way.
"She is homeless, has no food, no shelter and can only contact me through her phone when she is able to get help from strangers," read a statement by Newlove.
Rose is also in need of medication after she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and has also undergone surgery to treat the condition.
This prompted Newlove to start a fundraiser on Go Fund Me to help fly her mother to the UK. So far, she has raised Ksh44,802 from a target of Ksh356,703.
"Last time she ran out of her medication she was coughing up blood and ended up in a Nairobi hospital. I really don't have any money to help her so that is why I have created a Go Fund Me.
"I am embarrassed to put our story out there but she is in need of help and if I can't help her I'm unsure what will happen," she added.
Newlove noted that prior to the Go Fund Me, she and her sisters had been supporting the ailing mother who has been in and out of hospital in Kenya.
Rose has also suffered from depression and paranoia making it difficult for her to hold down a job.
"Her life was not full of riches in the UK, but she always managed to make sure I had food on my plate. That I got up to go to school, that I got up to make it to the sixth form. She even saved up the little money she had for me to take to university," she noted.
