Former Sirisia member of parliament John Munyasia is mourning the death of his wife Janet Khaoya Munyasia who passed away in a tragic accident along Kitale-Webuye Road.

Speaking to the press, Khaoya's sister Caren noted that Janet passed away on the night of Saturday, July 2, at around 8:00 p.m.

She had boarded a matatu heading to Bungoma to meet her husband and their son. At Webuye, however, the matatu was hit by a water bowser that was using the climbing lane on the highway.

According to witnesses, the bowser was attached to a tractor which unexpectedly detached before hitting the 14-seater matatu and a boda boda.

"She usually drives herself but this time round she boarded a matatu and her husband was to pick her in Bungoma town. He tried in to reach her by phone and they began a search that landed them in mortuary," stated Caren according to Nation.

Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Jecinta Wesonga corroborated the statement noting that the bowser lost control on the road while going uphill.

"As the tractor was going uphill, the screw joining the bowser and the tractor came off and the water bowser descended downhill, hitting the matatu," he stated.

Janet was a retired teacher who worked at Cardinal Otunga Girls High School located in Bungoma County. He husband served as Sirisia MP for two terms in 1992 and 1997.

The incident left three people dead while others sustained serious injuries. The bodies of the deceased were transferred to Kitale County Hospital mortuary.

Those who sustained injuries were taken to Kitale County Hospital while the public service vehicle and the tractor were towed to Kitale Police Station.

In a separate accident along Webuye-Eldoret Road, six people died following a tragic accident in which a trailer fell on a 14-seater matatu at Miti Mbili area near Turbo along the Webuye-Eldoret highway.

A 14-seater matatu rammed into a tipper truck that had stalled on the road. After the collision, another matatu parked on the side of the road rushed those injured to a nearby hospital.

Unfortunately, a trailer en route to Webuye rammed into the second matatu before overturning and trapping the matatu.
