Scores Injured in Multiple Vehicles Collision on Nairobi-Nakuru Highway

At least 20 people are fighting for their lives at Naivasha Referral Hospital after three vehicles collided in Kinungi area along busy Nairobi - Nakuru highway. 

The Friday night, June 3, accident involved a lorry, a private car and a 14 seater public service van. 

St. John Ambulance First Responders rushed to the scene and attended to the victims before rushing them to the hospital. 

“We provided First Aid care to the accident victims,” St. John’s Ambulance updated.

The accident came hours after seven people passed away along Narok - Bomet highway after a matatu and trailer collided head on.

Kinungi area is listed as one of the black spots along the Nairobi - Nakuru Highway. 

In May, 33 passengers were injured in an accident at Soweto in Kinungi.

The accident involved 7 private cars, a 14-seater matatu, and a truck. 

One person was killed in the accident that caused a huge traffic snarl-up. 

In February, four people died in a grisly accident in the same area, involving a truck and a Probox. 

Data provided by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicated that 1,345 people lost their lives in road accidents between January and April 11, 2022.

“This translated to a 15 per cent increase as compared to 1,168 fatalities recorded over a similar period in 2021.  

“Pedestrians recorded the highest fatalities with 457 deaths, followed by motorcyclists at 381. PSV and pillion passengers followed with 225 and 137 fatalities respectively,” NTSA reported.
