Motorists were warned to drive with extra caution due to slippery roads.

Further, another vehicle on Monday morning slid and rolled over along the Southern bypass. This highlighted the grave situation whereby motorists ought to drive with extra care during the rainy season which causes poor visibility.

Kenyans online also urged the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to look into the causes of various accidents in Kinungi area.

On February 28, 2022, four people died in a grisly accident on the same black spot. This occurred after their Toyota Probox rammed into the rear of a truck that was ferrying construction materials.

The latest report by NTSA indicated that 1,345 people had lost their lives in road accidents from the beginning of the year to April 11, 2022.

This translated to a 15 per cent increase as compared to 1,168 fatalities recorded over a similar period during the previous year.

Pedestrians recorded the highest fatalities with 457 deaths, followed by motorcyclists who recorded 381. Pillion passenger and public vehicle passengers followed with 137 and 225 fatalities respectively.

“Road users must strive to be responsible whether in complying with traffic rules as a driver, rider or pedestrian, enforcing the law, or educating others in engaging in safe behaviour," NTSA stated.
