Officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided an office linked to Deputy President William Ruto located at Transnational Plaza in Nairobi.

In the Sunday, July 24 operation, the officers forcefully made their way into the ninth-floor office - leaving damages in their wake.

They broke down doors during the operation and worked through the rubble. Nairobi Regional Commissioner James Mugera, in an address to the press, noted that the raid was meant to confirm reports that an election-related server was being hosted in the office.

"Two private servers were being moved… We are here to verify," Mugera stated.

Kenyans.co.ke contacted a source at United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party who indicated that they would be issuing a statement on the matter.

Emmanuel Talam, the director of communications in the office of the DP, did not respond when asked if Ruto still maintained a private office at the CBD building.

The same team proceeded to raid another office in the CBD and confiscated more computers.

This comes amidst a fallout between the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and the DCI following the arrest of three Venezuelan nationals who were nabbed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in possession of electoral materials.

IEBC faulted the DCI of arresting its officials hence impeding its progressing in electoral readiness just 15 days to the August 9 General Elections.

DCI boss George Kinoti, on the other hand, maintains that the three individuals, who were nabbed with the materials privately smuggled into the country, were not employees of the electoral commission and had flown into the country for private engagement.

Earlier, the DP went on a tirade accusing President Uhuru Kenyatta as well as the DCI over the state's investigations into the entry of election materials through the personal luggage of the three Venezuelans.

"You (Uhuru) have two weeks as the president of Kenya and it is your constitutional duty to ensure we have a free and fair election. Please, don't allow the security agencies to intimidate the IEBC. Don't confuse your duties as the Azimio chairman and as the president of Kenya," the DP stated.
