"We have laid down measures to know what caused the death of that teacher. We still do not understand what happened. He did not have a gun and was not associated with theft incidents.

"We have told the students to leave so that we monitor the situation. Before the end of the week, we will have asked them to come back because we did not want collateral damage, "explained an officer.

The teacher, Cyrus Kirukura, was waylaid by unknown gunmen and shot dead outside the school while heading to the hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred barely 200 meters near Baragoi High School gate om Monday, July 25.

"That is a very unfortunate incident. He was killed 200 metres from our school main gate," stated the school's Principal Elijah Letakai.

Samburu North Deputy County Commissioner Jackson Oloo confirmed the incident noting that a manhunt for the attackers had been launched.

"There are allegations that he was shot by unknown gunmen but our team is on the ground conducting investigations to find out the motive," he stated.

The body of the deceased was transferred Samburu County Referral Hospital Mortuary in Maralal town.

It's a blow to the learners after the ministry of education compressed the school calendar to recover lost time during the pandemic.

Schools across the country are expected to close for midterm, days before August 9, to allow the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission - IEBC, to prepare, since some of the institutions are designated polling stations.
