The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has responded to the viral clip purported to be of Suna East MP Junet Mohamed allegedly convening a high-level meeting with the commission's top officials.

Speaking during a media briefing on Monday, August 1, IEBC Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera affirmed that no such meeting was called between Junet and any of their commissioners.

However, she pointed out that the electoral body had launched investigations into the clip.

"As far as I am concerned there is nothing factual about it. We have our ears in the ground and people on social media who have been monitoring what has been happening.

"It has been shared out in the pool of experts who shall look into that," Cherera affirmed.

In addition, the commissioner called on the public to disregard any information on the upcoming poll - save for that made available during IEBC's daily media briefs or shared on its official social media handles.

"Let me make it categorically clear that the only information that is legitimate came from the commission through the daily press briefings and official social media handles," she stated.

The IEBC vice chair also dismissed allegations of plans to compromise the KIEMS kits from the warehouses where they were being stored.

"Every week, we have been inviting IT experts from all parties to the warehouses to ascertain what is contained in the KIEMS kits and the process is very transparent," Cherera clarified.

The Wafula Chebukati-led commission acknowledged that it was alive to reports that unidentified individuals were buying national identification cards from unsuspecting Kenyans. The electoral body noted that the issue was being handled by its investigating teams.

Despite being hard-pressed to explain the fate of the three Venezuelans arrested by DCI officers at JKIA, IEBC declined to give details on how the issue was resolved.

The electoral body maintained its commitment to deliver a free, fair and transparent election on August 9/
