Ochanda & Sitienei To Lead Ruto, Raila In Their Home Constituencies

A number of Members of Parliament have so far been declared winners after August 9 elections, for a chance to represent Kenyans for the next five years.

Two main presidential contenders, Azimio's Raila Odinga and Kenya Kwanza's William Ruto have had their home town MP-elect declared even as counting process for the harshly contested race continues.

Ruto, who hails from Turbo, in Uasin Gishu county will be represented in the National Assembly by Janet Sitienei who defended the seat, which she first won on Jubilee in 2017.

Ruto was the area MP from the year 1997 to 2013, when it was known as Eldoret North, before he became Deputy President.

In Siaya County, Bondo constituency, Raila will be led by Dr. Gideon Ochanda who was declared winner on Wednesday, August 11.

Ochanda was vying on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.

Bondo Constituency Returning Officer Dennis Omari Obara declared that Ochanda had won with 69,574, beating three other contenders.

The three, Namal Oronye, John Barack and Humphrey Opondo were competing against Ochanda and managed 556, 976 and 2,510 votes, respectively.

Kibera constituency, Nairobi County, which Raila represented in the National Assembly for 20 years will be led by Peter Orero who won the seat on ODM ticket.

Former international football star McDonald Mariga who vied on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket came in second with 20,049 votes while incumbent Imran Okoth who was vying as independent came third with 18,901 votes.

The leafy suburbs of Karen, where Odinga and Ruto have official residences will be represented by Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o.

Odiwour, a media personality won on an ODM ticket after beating his closest rival and incumbent Nixon Korir of UDA.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) began verification of votes from all the 290 constituencies on Thursday, August 11 as Kenyans await impatiently on the final results.
