Different families continued extending their leadership legacy in Kenyan politics after some of their kin were declared winners by the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Some of the children of former powerful politicians made their debut in politics, while others defended their seats.
However, some were unlucky and floored by the competitors breaking their family leadership chain.
Ronald Karauri
Sportpesa Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ronald Karauri clinched the Karasani parliamentary seat after garnering 32,406 votes, followed closely by his opponent John Njoroge who got 30444 votes.
Karauri is the son of former Tigania East MP Matthew Adams Karauri. He was among powerful KANU legislators who served during the late former President Daniel Moi's era.
Ruth Odinga
Ruth Odinga, the sister of Azimio la Umoja Presidential candidate Raila Odinga, was elected the Woman Representative of Kisumu County.
According to results announced by IEBC, Odinga, who vied on the ODM ticket, got 304,293 votes to be declared the winner.
Her closest rival, Valentine Otieno of the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) Party, got 80,117 votes.
Ruth Odinga is the daughter of Kenya's first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
The late Jaramogi served in President Jomo Kenyatta's government until 1966 when he resigned as the second in command.
Oburu Odinga
Oburu Odinga garnered 285,595 votes to be declared Siaya senator by IEBC.
His closest competitor, Okinda Julius, was vying as an independent candidate and got 33,898 votes.
Before winning the senatorial seat, Oburu served as a member of the East African Legislative Assembly - EALA, based in Arusha, Tanzania.
He is the former assistant minister for finance in the 2008 Grand Coalition Government and a former Member of the Parliament, Kenya.
Oburu is the son of Jaramogi, Kenya's first Vice President who died in 1994.
Julius Sunkuli
Former Legislator Julius Sunkuli made a comeback on the political arena after a 20-year absence.
In the results announced by Kilgoris Constituency Returning Officer Lilian Lillumah, Sunkuli garnered 20,293 votes beating off competition from his closest competitor John Lekakeny Ololtua (UDA), who got 16,713 votes.
He is the son of the late Francis Ole Sunkuli who came in the limelight ahead of the 2017 General Election when he attempted in vain to reconcile his two sons – the former minister and Nairobi businessman Andrew Sunkuli – who were both running for the Narok Senate seat.
Sunkuli senior was among the powerful power brokers who worked in Moi's administration and helped shape politics in Narok. He however did not contest for any elective post.
Abdulkadir Mohamed Haji
Haji, brother to Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji, was declared Garissa senator-elect after garnering 72,383 votes.
He took over the mantle of leadership from his late father Yusuf Haji, who was Garissa's senator before his demise in February 2021.
Yusuf held powerful positions, including Cabinet Minister. He was the Minister of Defence of Kenya from 2008 to 2013 and briefly served as its acting Minister of Internal Security and Provincial Affairs in 2012.
He also served as Provincial Commissioner between 1970 and 1997.
