How Siblings Who Vied in 2022 Polls Have Faired So Far

As the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) continues to announce results of the August 9 polls, a number of siblings who contested in elections have registered mixed results.

In this year's polls, some blood brothers and sisters were on the ballot either against each other or vied for different positions. 

Kenyans.co.ke takes a look at the results registered by the different candidates.

Losers  

Moses Kuria and Aloise Kinyanjui 

The outgoing Gatundu South Member of Parliament was among the first leaders to concede. Kuria stated that he had bowed out of elective politics and would back seat as a public citizen.

Kuria was vying for the Kiambu  gubernatorial seat on his Chama Cha Kazi party.  

His brother Aloise Kinyanjui who was vying for the Juja parliamentary seat on a Jubilee party ticket also lost to UDA’s George Koimburi who garnered 39,413 against Kinyanjui’s 30,799.  

Mwanaisha  Chidzuga and Hassan Chidzuga   

Mwanaisha  Chidzuga and Hassan Chidzuga both lost their quest for the Matuga Parliamentary seat.  

UDA’s Tandaza Kassim won the Parliamentary seat after garnering a total of 17,841. Hassan who was vying on an ODM ticket managed 7,842 and Mwanaisha received 4,102.  

Winners  

Oburu Oginga and Ruth Odinga

Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga's siblings Oburu and Ruth Odinga won in the Siaya Senatorial and Kisumu Woman Representative seats respectively.  

Oburu who vied on an ODM ticket garnered a total of  285,555 votes with Tony Yogo coming in second position with 25,157 votes.  

In Kisumu County, Ruth bagged 304,293 votes in the Woman Representative contest, defeating Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) candidate Valentine Otieno who garnered 80,117 votes.  

Tim Wanyonyi and Moses Wetangula  

The incumbent Westlands Member of Parliament is yet to be declared the winner however his competitor Nelson Havi conceded congratulating him for his win.  

His brother Moses Wetangula who is the Ford Kenya party Leader retained his senatorial position after garnering a total of 286,146 votes.
